NTOA Trophy Cup Rules and Scoring

Individual Eligibility

In order to earn points toward a team score the individual must be a UIL eligible member of the high school which fields the team

Clarifying Notes:

a)      Coaches may not earn points for the team

b)      Parents may not earn points for the team

c)      Siblings and friends may not earn points for the team (unless they are a part of the team and UIL eligible)

Example 1: A younger sibling is in middle school and travels with the team is not eligible to score points for the high school team

Example 2: A visiting relative or friend that competes is not eligible to score points for the high school team

Individual Points (Class Results)

Point values earned by the eligible member are calculated based on the results placement of the individual within the Orienteering class in which they competed. For an Individual to receive points they must achieve a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place result.†

All individuals that participate in the class are included in the placement results. The eligible member must place in the category regardless of who else is competing in that category. (I.E. Some non-school individuals may be competing and may place)

Example:  A high school senior is classified in the 19-44 class for a particular course.  The student must place while competing against NTOA, HOC, Boy Scouts, or any other participant in the category in order to earn points.

Points are earned by individuals for the top three placement results in each class are calculated as follows:
