Tyler, Texas
Sat., April 15, 2023

Tyler State Park in the Piney Woods of East Texas offers some of the best of Texas orienteering. The popular park features lots of shaded hiking trails, some of which were built by the CCC back in the 1930’s. A small lake with a swimming beach is situated in the middle of the park and offers the chance to take a refreshing dip after the event. Most of the park is covered by open and runnable pine and oak forest (with help from recent controlled burns). However, the terrain is also complicated, with hills and reentrants carved by small spring-fed streams and erosion gullies, plus, complex mountain bike trails.

Bonus Activity: 2023 Night-O Championships of the Republic of Tylerstanovia!

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to navigate at night in some of Tylerstanovia’s most wonderful terrain. We have received special permission from the consulate to waive all visa and passport requirements for this one-night event. Enjoy navigating by medieval castles, towering mountain peaks and among herds of rare, majestic Tylerstanovia giant unicorn squirrels. Alas, it will be night, so these things will be hard to spot; rest assured, they are out there. Get all the details here.

Bonus Activity: Zig-Zag O!

Time and space permitting, you’ll have another chance to train your brain with Zig-Zag orienteering courses!

Registration

Online pre-registration is highly encouraged! We use these numbers to determine how many pre-printed maps to produce for each event. In particular, group leaders, please pre-register or drop the Registrar an email to talk about your group’s size. We do print a modest number of extra maps, and day-of-race is permited. But there’s no guarantee you’ll have a map on the course you want. Pre-registration is FREE and opens about 10 days before event, so please take a moment to do it. Thanks!

Questions bout registration? Contact the NTOA Registrar. For questions on other event matters, contact the Meet Director (listed above).

Individuals (1 person navigating on their own):

Only individuals can officially compete (awards for top 3 in each class) at NTOA events. But even if you’re doing it on your own just for recreation, please sign up as a (competitive) individual. Members and youth (aka, Juniors, age 19 and under) pay reduced event fees. There’s a $3 surcharge for adult day-of-race entries. So join NTOA and pre-register! Fee covers 1 map.

Competitive Teams (2 people navigating together):

New for this season: Competitive teams of two people, working together. Fee includes 2 maps. There’s a $3 surcharge for day-of-race entries. One e-punch required — bring your own or rent from us. In the dropdown labeled Competitor, select “Competitive Team” instead of Male or Female.

Team (2 adults)
